Playing catch up to spring break and rodeo week

Back during spring break (two weeks ago), yes my blogging this year is few and far between. My brother’s family came and visited from Austin.  They stayed up at Lake Conroe at La Torretta Lake Resort, and we joined them for a day at the pool.

Lake Conroe

That was our first experience at Lake Conroe, and its really pretty! I actually felt like I was no longer in Texas.  The hotel had a fun water park with slides, a play area, and a lazy river.  The boys were nice enough to order their wives pina coladas!

The weather is pretty good here in Houston.  I think Spring is finally here.  I don’t know how the kids could swim in the unheated pools though. Suzette and I covered ourselves in towels to stay warm.  So much for trying to get rid of my shockingly white legs.

A few days later, we met up with them at the Houston rodeo.  The food at the rodeo is amazing. More specifically, the cowboy burrito, steak on a stick, and roasted corn on the cob!

I was really sad that we couldn’t go to Rascal Flatts the week before, but I was stuck in the hospital, so we didn’t use our tickets.  Keith Urban was performing instead.  Maybe I didn’t enjoy him because I’m not too familiar with his songs, but I hate it when you go to see a concert and the artist lets the audience sing the lyrics.  Seriously, “I came to your concert to hear you sing, not the stupid person sitting next to me.” (no, Fernando I’m not referring to you, or anyone else in my fam).

Next year I will be content with just eating the food, and maybe watch a little mutton bustin.

New Fav Restaurant

Ferd and I are trying to limit ourselves to eating out once a week. That’s hard when there are so many good restaurants to choose from. However, one type of cuisine we haven’t been able to find is good Chinese food. I got this tip from my patient earlier this week. It’s called Qin Dynasty located off of Buffalo Spdwy and the 59, next to Starbucks.
This is some of the best Chinese food I have experienced. Not greasy in any way, great portion size, and fantastic presentation. We ordered chicken and veggie dumplings for an appetizer, sweet and sour pork, pineapple seafood fried rice, and shrimp & chicken with cashew nuts. They have a nice menu selection and two pages of sushi and sashimi, which made me wonder, is it a Chinese or Japanese restaurant. I guess the answer is Hunan. Either way it is delicious. It was a nice atmosphere with a live piano player and Terracotta Warrior like decor. Prices range from $12-25 per dish. Again, portion size was pretty good.

OK, so although the food was amazing, I was totally distracted all night by this crazy granny sitting by us with her poor husband. The granny lady would randomly shout obscenities, and we couldn’t tell if she was chewing out her husband or not. I managed to pick up a few words like “I wish I was dead!”, “&*%# homosexuals”, and “if this food has even a speck of pepper in it I’m sending it straight back to the kitchen!” (which she did 3 times). After the third time, the poor Chinese server (or manager) said, “I don’t know what to do, we keep making new one with no pepper and you won’t eat!” She ended up not eating at all. Anyway, it was an amusing scene by all of us who were witnesses, but Fernando genuinely felt bad for her husband who didn’t really say anything the whole night.

Thank You

We are overwhelmed by the love and support of our family and friends. Your thoughts, phone calls, emails, and prayers have made such an impact on both of us and have certainly made it easier to move on. I know without a doubt that the power of faith and prayer are real–and the reason that I am still here today

To make it brief (I apologize to my family who has heard this over and over), these are the events that took place in the last couple of days:

I went in for my scheduled surgery (D&E) Tuesday morning with the expectation to go home right afterward and return to work the next day–just like I did with my last miscarriage. However, I continued to hemorrhage in the recovery room for several more hours. The doctors decided to put me back into the surgery room to see if they could stop the bleeding; if unsuccessful, they would have had to do a hysterectomy. What the doctors soon found out was that I virtually had no clotting factors in my blood prior to entering the operating room. It’s something called DIC that can occur when a fetus passes away, eliminating the clotting factors in the mother’s blood. I was an accident waiting to happen. Unfortunately, surgery was a recipe for disaster and I ended up losing half of my total blood volume. Thankfully, my doctors were truly inspired and were successful in stopping the blood and saving my uterus. I was given blood transfusions all through out that night with Fernando by my side, and was released from the hospital Thursday with a second chance at life.

I am just so sad when I think about all that has happened, but I hope that some day, we will get to hold these little babies in our arms that we never got to meet in this life. And it will be a great reunion

Some Sad News

We received some heartbreaking news at my 18 week check-up on Friday. Our baby’s heart was not beating. My doctor said it must have passed away two or three weeks ago. The cause is unknown, but hopefully with some tests we will figure out why this is happening. I undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers, Ferd and I are in definite need of them.
